What do Bessy the Bagpiper, the world’s biggest tea party, and a German open-air concert have in common?
They’re all part of milestone celebrations marking major anniversaries in locations across Europe. In 2025, Glasgow celebrates its 850th anniversary, Stoke-on-Trent marks 100 years since it gained city status, and Lingen in Lower Saxony commemorates an extraordinary 1,050 years of history.
To support these momentous events, Bay Media has partnered with each city to deliver tailored out-of-home (OOH) advertising campaigns, helping to bring each one’s unique identity to the forefront.
Bonnie Banners in Glasgow
To honour its 850th anniversary, Glasgow unveiled a year-long programme of events celebrating the city’s storied past and dynamic present. From hosting the world-renowned TRNSMT Festival to commissioning the “Great Big Glasgow Poem,” the celebrations reflect both civic pride and progressive ambition.
Bay Media partnered with Glasgow City Council to deliver a bold visual campaign that enhanced the city’s branding. A total of 52 lamppost banners, featuring a range of ‘civic badges’, were installed city-wide in May to reside until the end of August. With strong visibility throughout the summer and a design rooted in tradition, the banners played a key role in celebrating Glasgow’s proud identity.
Building on this success, from June to July Bay Media also deployed 68 banners for the TRNSMT Festival, using coordinated colour schemes to maintain design cohesion across initiatives. The result was a unified cityscape that amplified Glasgow’s visual identity during its milestone year.
By creatively reinterpreting iconic symbols and executing consistent, high-impact designs, the banners helped create an immersive atmosphere throughout the anniversary, reinforcing cultural touchpoints.
Striking Success in Stoke-on-Trent
In Stoke-on-Trent, centenary celebrations pay tribute to the city’s rich industrial heritage and vibrant cultural scene. Events range from a two-day Ceramic Symposium to an audio documentary exhibit on Stoke’s influence in the Northern Soul movement.
Installed in March to be displayed for a year, the 116 banners were placed in high-traffic areas, including Glebe Street – a central location for centenary events like historical walking tours, exhibitions and community gatherings.
These banners served dual purposes: as eye-catching promotional tools and as practical wayfinding aids that guided residents and visitors to key venues. By embedding OOH assets directly into the urban environment, Bay Media helped generate excitement, boost attendance, and strengthen local pride in a city reflecting on a century of progress.
Don’t just take our world for it. As the Centenary 100 Project Manager commented about the effectiveness of the ads and her experience working with the Bay Media team:
“The banners have been much admired and commented on, it is great to look up and see [the] designs displayed so well… A special thank you for your support and patience in getting this across the line.”
Longstanding Legacy in Lingen
For Lingen, Germany, celebrating 1,050 years demanded a campaign that matched the town’s enduring legacy. Bay Media worked closely with Lingen’s council to develop a vibrant banner campaign that elevated public awareness in the lead-up to major summer events.
Twenty-five prime locations were selected in coordination with local authorities to maximise exposure. Installed in early June and remaining through mid-September, high-quality, double-sided street banners featured two alternating designs: one with the official anniversary logo and another capturing scenes of joyful community celebration.
As the banners lined the town’s key roads, they became a backdrop to open-air concerts, family festivals and historical parades, transforming everyday streetscapes into celebratory spaces. Our campaign contributed to the celebratory atmosphere, helping to make the town feel present in everyday life – visible, memorable, and unmistakably Lingen.
Celebrating Heritage Through Visibility: Let’s Tell Your Story
From Glasgow’s cultural legacy to Stoke-on-Trent’s creative energy and Lingen’s thousand-year heritage, each location tells its own story.
These projects highlight how effective visual campaigns can be in supporting a city’s celebrations. Not only have the banners driven footfall and increased public engagement, they’ve also helped unify branding, improve wayfinding, and leave a lasting visual impression on both residents and visitors.
Whether your celebration is local or international, traditional or trailblazing, Bay Media can help you turn your streets into a platform for meaningful stories. With expert project management, creative design and strategic placement, we bring your message to life – where it matters most.
