As Newcastle prepares to host the prestigious MOBO Awards tonight, excitement for the event is building across the city. Bay Media is proud to have played a part in creating this vibrant atmosphere, working in partnership with Newcastle City Council to implement a strategic out-of-home advertising campaign. We’ve enjoyed bringing the energy and excitement of the MOBOs to the streets, helping to build awareness and drive engagement for this landmark event.
The campaign is a strong example of effective awards ceremony marketing. By utilising the wide network of lamppost banner locations across Newcastle, we’ve helped create a highly visible and impactful presence for the MOBO Awards, reaching residents and visitors alike.

Strategic Placement, Maximum Impact
A total of 154 banners have been strategically placed throughout the city, transforming key thoroughfares into vibrant displays of the MOBO brand. Key locations include Neville Street, St James’ Boulevard, Percy Street, Barras Bridge, St Mary’s Place, and the bustling Northumberland Street. Recognising the unique requirements of the Quayside area, with its smaller street columns, we deployed smaller banners here, part of our commitment to safe and effective installations. Many of the lampposts in the centre of the city were dressed with two banners for even greater visibility.
The banner artwork itself features a striking black and gold design, incorporating the iconic MOBO Awards logo, the event date and location (Utilita Arena, Newcastle), plus the relevant hashtag and web address. The bold, contrasting colours and clean typography ensure the banners are eye-catching and easily readable.
A Long-Standing Parnership
The installation, which began on January 31st, was timed carefully to build momentum leading up to tonight’s ceremony. The banners will be removed promptly after the event concludes.
This project builds upon our long-standing relationship with Newcastle City Council, a partnership spanning over a decade. We’ve collaborated on a diverse range of campaigns, from promoting the city’s historic charm to supporting major events like the 2019 European Rugby Cup Final. Our experience working with the council ensures seamless execution and compliance with all local regulations.

Supporting the Cultural Landscape
The MOBO Awards are a celebration of music of black origin, and the accompanying MOBO Fringe Festival has further enriched the city’s cultural landscape. The five-day festival has included workshops in schools, engaging young people with rap music and songwriting, and fostering the next generation of musical talent. A special photo display at the Discovery Museum, in partnership with Northern Roots, pays tribute to the history of black music on Tyneside, featuring both international icons and local artists.
Reflecting on a Successful Collaboration
Bay Media is proud to have collaborated with Newcastle City Council on this event. We’re pleased to have contributed to the MOBO Awards’ visibility across the city, and it’s been rewarding to see how our out-of-home campaign has resonated with residents and visitors. This project highlights how effective, well-placed awards ceremony marketing can contribute to a city’s vibrancy and connect with its community.
