Planet Mark

Bay Media proudly hold Planet Mark certification, underscoring our enduring commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.

The certification is a comprehensive program that measures our carbon footprint and aids us in developing strategies for meaningful reduction year-on-year. Our membership with Planet Mark encompasses a multi-faceted approach to sustainability, from operational efficiencies to stakeholder engagement.

As a part of this continuous journey, we contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goals and are actively involved in Planet Mark’s partnership with Cool Earth, a charity focused on protecting endangered rainforests. Our aim is not just to lessen our impact but to make a positive contribution to global sustainability efforts.

The Future Forest Company

Planting for the Future –  Turning Banners into Broadleaves

3,674 Trees Planted

Bay Media have been running an initiative with the support of The Future Forest Company since 2021. 

At Bay Media’s cost, for every 10 banners bought by a local authority and for every £1,000 spent by clients, we plant a broadleaf tree in the UK. 

We already have this initiative in place with many of the local authorities we work with, and the project continues to grow. Contact us if you’d like to know more.

These trees are planted on our behalf by The Future Forest Company, who focus on planting the right tree species in the right place, as well as restoring native wildlife. 

We’ve planted 3,674 trees to date!

Bay Recycle

Bay Media’s post-campaign PVC and fabric banners are recycled by our trusted recycling partner. Banners are collected following each campaign and set aside, ready to be sent to their recycling depot. 

This is done only once an agreed weight of banners is hit, to ensure that collections are not too regular, which would itself add to needless CO² output.

The materials collected go through two-stages of shredding, thereafter, filter through to the heat injectors, which will melt the material down to liquid form for moulding into useful products including ramps and traffic cones. 

Energy captured from the process is used in generation processes. In addition, any plastic packaging, cardboard material or used metals (from spent banding) are recycled locally by our installation teams.

Transportation & Logistics

Part of our operations process at Bay Media involves working to reduce emissions of CO² produced by vehicles used in the transportation and/or installation and removal of our advertising campaigns. 

Having our installation teams based locally helps reduce the requirement for excess drive times and emissions output. Our operations team carefully manage works schedules, grouping jobs to lead to greater efficiencies in transport time.

Bay Media installation teams are also encouraged at every opportunity to ensure that vehicles are not left idling during works. We have also worked with our vehicle supplier to source and utilise environmentally friendly vehicles, meeting the requirements of the London ULEZ.

ReActivair

Provided by our approved print supplier, ReActivair is a ‘pollution eating’ coating that can be used in a wide range of out-of-home print applications such as lamppost banners. 

Made of naturally occurring minerals, ReActivair works by forming a substrate which absorbs and cleans harmful nitrous dioxide from the air.

Results from Sheffield University show that 1 square coated metre can capture around 2 grams of NOx each day. This means an average lamppost banner can reverse the effects of the pollution created from a bus or about 20 cars every single day.
